Missoula Help
Who knows anybody in Missoula MT to lend a hand to Nate - he is heading East in his 84 and it appears his alternator took a crap. It was a replacement rebuild just put in before the trip. All indications are an alternator problem. Need a shop or a swap or a replacement. Anybody have suggestions?

Great Tony. Thanks. Nate is with his cousin there now. Car is stuck out on the road somewhere at a pull over.

Unfortunately it's Sun and business's are closed. That said..the person I e-mailed is a business acquaintance and might not hear back until tomorrow. Hope Nate finds a solution. T

They appear to be Bertrand. Not the connections. Colin thinks maybe the voltage regulator. Problem is finding the right part in Missoula. So we are thinking just replace alternator entirely.
So the question is, what brand alternators will work in a 1984 "S"? Nate can go to the local autoparts store and get what they have, but we need options at this point for what may work

Sorry, in late on this. Swap in camaro 105A alternator from, say, 88.
Slightly shorter belt.
Three flat washers to shim it forward. Replace the fancy tensioner with a 1/2 inch dia bolt and nut. Use a tire iron to pry it right, just like back in the day
Splice in a pigtail connector to plug into the alternator. Easiest way is whack off the ground lug and probably hot lug.
Zip tie the air feed hose to the frame.
Been covered here a dozen times for 16V.
It's BFE road fix option for you that a local can execute. I could talk you thru it.

if you cant get a alternator,
buy a new battery with the highest CCA they have ,
have them also charge your old battery,
put the new battery in.
disconnect the blower under the cowl,
roll the windows down and drive till it quits.
NOTE keep off any other electrical devices,
dont keep your foot on the brake anymore than necessary as it runs the lights.
Only travel during the day,
you should be able to cover a few hundred if not more miles with two battery's
NOTE time the duration of running for the first battery,
and then figure the second one is good for 2/3ds the time.
pull over and get both battery's recharged at your favorite FLAPS and start over

Nate and I talked about that Stan. I recommended against it. I lived out that way for 4 years, and it is hard to imagine how truly remote it all is, unless you've spent time there. It would be a dice roll that I would not take.
Nate has a replacement alternator coming from a guy who I had hooked up through my old PCA region contact. I reached out to my old mates, and they got a hold of a guy over near Nate, and those two hooked up. The power of social media cannot be overstated! (Facebook in that case)
