Default Side Mouldings

How are the side mouldings attached to the car. They run from the back part of the fender, down the door, to the front part of the q-panel.

One of these strips are bubbling up and I would like to fix it, but they are so ugly I would rather remove all of them. Are they bolted or bonded on?

Bolted on, with big holes in the body panels
Otherwise I'd have yanked them off first thing.

How do you get to the bolts?

I've had the door and fender ones off and on so not sure how the rears are attached. On my '80, the fender and front of the door have plastic clips. The rear of the door has a bolt that is along the jamb. There is double-backed adhesive tape holding them on. I believe the rears have the clips as well. The holes are about 3/8th of an inch.

At the end of each piece of molding is a piee that plugs into a clip in the fender.

If your molding buckles, you will have to remove it, replace the two clips (I think they are $3 each), and use special trim tape (3M makes it, Kragen has a different brand) to reattach the whole thing.

The pieces are easier to remove, if you warm things up in your garage. You can use a strong hairdryer to d that. Make sure you remove all old glue residue. Then replace the clips and put the tape on the molding. Lastly, put the whole thing back on the car.

Last I tried, this past Summer, the clips were not available.
