Default 86 VIN Question

I noticed today when I was pulling the VIN that the tag on the right side fender that is stamped into the metal is close but not the same as the window and door jam. Any thoughts?

WPOJB0920GS860224 - Window and Door
WPOZZZ92ZGS860224 - Stamped on fender

All cars have a "ZZZ" VIN stamped on the fender.

US/Canadian cars get the "JB0" (zero, not "Oh") VIN for the formal VIN.

My understanding (and I could certainly be wrong on this) is that the car was assigned a VIN/production number before the destination was determined.

My 944 is the same. "ZZZ" on the firewall, "JB0" on the dash & title.

All cars have got the VIN with the Zs stamped on the fender but their market was already decided at this point.
A Row 1986 car is WP0ZZZ92ZGS84.... when a US/Can is WP0ZZZ92ZGS86.... .

The Z digits were later assigned according to the safety equipment of the car, if I remember correctly.

And some cars that were assigned to the US/Can serie, were in fact kept by the factory and have the ZZZ VIN everywhere.
That is the case of the 1987 S4 cabriolet prototype by example. I have checked this myself

I call the ZZZ VIN cars, the sleeper cars.
Most 928's ran down an assembly line like Santa's toys, but some had no home to go to.
My '85 has the ZZZ vin, the original OP ordered for U.S., my car has Euro wiring leading to dead ends. But it's a U.S. spec car, (non california).

Thanks for the clarification Samuel.

And Farris, all cars have the wiring pigtail for the fender turn signals, as well as the switch for the rear fog light. No difference in the wiring between US and RoW cars.
