Default Help. A/T Shifter Parts?

Looking for anyone who supplies parts for the "T" shifter handle on an automatic '85 928 S3?

My son took the car to some idiots to have a stereo installed about 15 years ago and the guy (idiot #1) layed across the shift handle, breaking a plastic bushing at the base. I glued it together and it worked for awhile but it broke again.

I've found the complete assemblies for about $450 but all I really need is another one of those plastic parts. Does anyone deal in these? If necessary I can send pictures, it's the part that holds the shift handle to the metal shift rod, it's at the very base of the shift handle.

Looks to me like something that could be made with a 3D printer, it isn't a very complicated part.

Any leads would be appreciated. More information (pictures) available on request?

Thanks,

I've been looking for one for a while. Pretty much all of them break.

That's what I've heard, seems like there's be a decent market for that part, which is why I'm surprised no one makes them.

That's the T handle shifter I'm using now. It works, I'm not happy with the feel and prefer the original.

The broken plastic base is not separate from the handle, its one piece. We do not have any good used 85-95 handles but we do have a few 83-84 ones which will work

Odd, mine is. I was able to remove it, put it back together with a 2 part epoxy and re-install it. I got a few years out of it but the epoxy separated again. I expect I could repeat that procedure multiple times, but I'd really like to find someone who's made a billet aluminum part to replace it.

I'd just assumed they were all the same.

If mine's that unique, I'll probably wait until I have my mill set up in my new shop (I'm moving shops at the moment) and try making a one off.

Well, belay that. After Mark's comment I thought I'd go down to the shop and take a picture of the broken part, but I seemed to have misplaced the whole assembly. It could be in Paso Robles at my new location, not sure, but it isn't in my used parts box.

That's what I get for lollygagging. I've been so busy with my 944 restoration I haven't done anything with the 928 in a couple years.

A Champagne shifter is a definite upgrade from the stock unit.

I've got a very nice black AT shifter assembly from my '91 S4: Handle only $125 plus shipping. With accordian rubber boot and working tambour shift indicator plate: all three pieces for $200 plus shipping.

I accidentally posted this to the wrong thread, an old one that dates back to my first search on this subject. Sorry for the confusion.

------------

I've been using my old stock T handle since, well, 1985 Somehow anything but the stock T handle just doesn't feel right to me. I have the (cheap) replacement installed now but it doesn't have the solid feel my old shifter had.

Right after mine broke the first time I found an outfit that was selling genuine Porsche replacements for $450 and I balked at the price so I went with the epoxy alternative, now I can't find them anymore and I'm sort of kicking myself for being cheap. I also can't find my broken shift handle and I'm really kicking myself for that. I vaguely recall I might have sent it in to someone who was rebuilding them, but I can't be sure and I don't have any records. It would have been sometime between 2011 and 2014. With all the parts orders I've made since then I can't keep this stuff strait anymore. Restoring two cars back to back doesn't help me either

So baring a replacement bushing, I suppose I'm just looking to source a factory replacement shifter. Everything in the car is stock, it only has 70K miles on it and I'd like to keep it that way. Call me obsessive, everyone else does...

Think it would fit an '85? If so, I'll take it.

I was thinking of having the plastic part 3D printed if I could find all the pieces and piecemeal it back together or get an intact donor.
