I am a NON-recovering OCD'er too. Took the wheels off and used a gallon of Simple Green, 12 brass brushes and 2 spray bottles of Ultimate Wash & Wax (works great on prettying up brakes and aluminum when it's clean). My wife says it's genetic.

Did I mention that was only one wheel well???

I pick one or two "extra effort" cleaning tasks each time the car gets washed. Might be wheelwells (and everything in them). Might be a bit of paint detailing, interior "extra" cleaning. Or might be nothing. It's seldom nothing. This progressive systemic cleaning habit keeps the cars nice all the time. Spreading out the effort like this also keeps stuff from becoming overwhelming.

That was one of my biggest problems with doing maintenance on our 928s in the past. What should have been about a 2 hour job, would turn into a weekend cleaning/painting/polishing fest, much to my wife's displeasure. More than once I was told "No one will see that" and my retort was "But honey, I would know" and she would leave shaking her head.

Have fun!
