Sunroof not flush?
Pic of the culprit.
hello all, have a slight issue with my 85 s3 5spd the sun roof works fine opens and closes, the issue is it won't go flush in the rear of the roof, in other words the back is not coming up all the way, is there an adjustment, thanks in advance.

They're a pain....basically on the rear adjusters...front screw is the level the roof is when it's retracting...I took advice from another document and lowered those as far as I could...risk here is scraping the top of the roof panel on underside of the roof when retracting...making it as low as possible mitigates. Rear most screws are the ones you use to adjust the back.
One thing that happened with mine..cause I had same issue you are having..I found out the felt seal was not completely seated in the roof panel, causing it to be just a little too wide for the opening, and I had the back hanging down like you have if I adjusted the front so it was up even flush properly.
The hole in the roof is just large enough for the panel and a properly seated seal, and no more. I had to push the felt seal back into the roof panel and I added a little coating of petroleum jelly to the edge that went up against the roof when closed...give it a little extra to go all the way up in there...worked like a charm.

Well, it can be seated good, but still not fit.
It needs STRETCHED as you fit it, it has to be THIN enough to fit.
Much more on the front less on the sides, and not as much on the corners.
Same for the rear strip as well.
