Stock Stereo Amp: Where is this connector supposed to live?
Hi All
My stereo system (wiring) is pretty much stock. The original Blaupunkt radio/cassette was swapped out years ago for a basic Blaupunkt radio/CD player and it just had a "plug and play" connection from SW Stereo Specialists.
Anyway, just started having issues with sound cutting completely out (or becoming very faint) intermittently. This occurs with the radio or a CD playing and the stereo unit appears to be getting continuous power while the volume fluctuates on/off.
I thought I would take a look at the connections to the stock amplifier as a starting point. The first thing I notice is the braided metal connector pictured below that looks like a ground or something but its not connected to anything.
However, I cannot see any obvious place it was meant to connect and cannot find a good pic of the connections anywhere.
Any help appreciated!!

I think it's the 6 channel Blaupunkt amp, used from 89-95. I'm not aware of any ground connection spade on the amp that would accept that ground connection.
I have seen versions of the preamp cable between the head unit and 6 -channel amp that either have or do not have that ground, not sure what the basis for it is.

Yes, I believe its the stock 6 channel Blaupunkt amp.
In any case I tried to ground it just in case it made any difference with my intermittent sound/no sound issue and it made zero difference. So everything is still on the blink unfortunately..

Between those crimped connectors and electrician taped connections, I would start here. This looks a bit hacked. I would check the two hot connections to the amp, one is hot all the time, the other activated by the radio to turn on the amp.

Yes- agreed and will do. On looking further, essentially every connection on this amp- including all 4 speaker leads on opposite side appear to have been cut and then re-soldered and taped back up- its crazy.
I'm the 2nd owner so I guess the original owner must have installed something different (ie aftermarket) in there and then pulled it back out. I just want it to work- personally I don't demand or want much in the way of a stereo in a 928- just be functional!
