Cleaning the Headlights
I thought I had some moisture in one of my H-5's (I believe they're H-5's... stock on the '94 GTS). So I removed the light from the back and put a small cloth in and it came out dirty. Their was a film on the inside of the lens. Tried cleaning with some windex and tissues (used a tissue on the end of a wire hanger) but, even though looking cleaner, when I put back together and turned on the light, there was still some dirt on the inside. Anyone got an idea how to effectively clean the inside of these lights? Also, can I remove any excess moisture by parking in the sun and subj the lens to direct sunlight with the bulb removed for a period of time?
Thanks

Put the assembly in the dish washer, the wife uses some thing that keeps her crystal glasses from spotting. They came out perfect just leave them in for the entire cycle with heat drying, ours flashes clean when done and cooled off.

The reflective coating on the lamps is probably not on friendly relations with caustic window cleaning agents like ammonia or ammonia-laced Windex. The black junk coming out is aluminum hydroxide if you aren't using the Right Stuff. Ammonia is great at softening grease and oil, but can be tough on certain metals too. Most alcohol-based window cleaners (stoner, wurth, sonax) are a much better choice. Pour some in, shake gently, empty. Do it again if they aren't like new after the first effort. Rinse with distilled water the same way -- pour some in, shake gently, empty. Wiping is not approved.

The 8" headlights either H4 or H5 are on their way to failing when the glue that holds the glass to the housing fails. You can disassemble the glass from the reflectors, clean everything, and re-glue the glass back on with new adhesive. The glue is soft by 300º in the oven.

This has been covered over at the Pelican 911 forum. If I had not done it, it may be hard to believe. Get the highest concentration rubbing alcohol from your drug store. This and rice is used as an abrasive. Pour the combination in the top of the lens. Skake it. Empty it out. Flush with water and then the rubbing alcohol. I would shake out the moisture best I could. Then leave in the sun with the opening up.
