Default engine temperature warning light always on

Hi guys,

I have 1980 euro 928 S
Recently I noticed that once I start the engine, the engine red warning light (not the CWL) stays on. I attached an image which is not from my car but shows what light i am talking about.

The coolant level is normal and obviously the engine temp is normal but the red light is always on (the needle shows correct temp reading)
Do you know if there is one single sensor for both the temperature "needle" indicator and the red light?

Or are there 2 separate sensors?
If so, if anyone can send a picture of both sensor - it would be very helpful.
Thanks for your help!

No pic.

Sensor is on the water bridge, on the right side as viewed from the front (driver side), one on left is Temp 2.

There are two wires coming off of it. One goes to the gauge, the other runs the light. Grounded out is "full hot" or "light on." My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the wire for the light is broken and grounding out somewhere. You can verify this by unplugging it. If the light goes out, it's the sensor. If the light stays on, it's wiring.

Thanks Joe,

So basically what you are saying if I unplug both wires from the sensor (assuming that the wires are ok) the light should go off?

I think so.

Probably better to unplug one at a time to see which one makes the temp gauge go to zero. Then the light is the other one.
