Subject: Replay - Is it time for another batch of steel y-connectors [ re: Y-
Folks, I sent this out a couple of weeks ago - while everyone was at
Frenzy 7. If you missed this the first time 'round and are interested
please let me know. (If you have already responded and gotten a reply
from me that 'you're on the list' there is no need to respond again.
To date only eleven folks have expressed interest by sending me an
e-mail.

Folks, as some of you may remember, I've twice since 1998 commissioned
the fabrication of stainless steel replacements for the plastic
y-connectors to the charcoal canister. I'm wondering if there's
enough interest to get another batch made.
To refresh your memories: The Y-connector is about 2 inches long and
is sequestered between the passenger side wheel-well and the inner
fender liner where it connects two vapor return lines to the charcoal
canister. In addition to barbs on the ends of the connector three
hose clamps keep the part in place. When the connector breaks the
symptom is a gas smell coming from the wheel-well generally only
detectable by the passenger. The charcoal system is officially on all
'87 or newer 928s and is also found on some '86s.
The plastic replacement part costs between $2 and $5 depending upon
your supplier. The lifetime of the part seems to be between minutes
and forever. The stainless part will cost around $20 (price depends
upon the number made and how cranky the fabricator is when I talk to
him) for those who promise to buy them before I lay out the cash for
the whole batch of parts. Final cost will include the price of the
part plus shipping, packaging, and insurance - generally about $3 for
US addresses. So call it $20 to $25 total.
If you are interested in and willing to commit to a purchase of a
steel connector please let me know via e-mail. I'll collect responses
and when I get around 30 or so, I'll contact the fabricator.
