Default Repairing the Dash , needs help with it

Hi Guys

I need to fix/replace the leather dash.
Is there a big difference between the vinyl and the leather materials?
Anyone knows where I can buy the whole skin/leather part of the dash?
Anyone knows a good upholstery shop in NJ?

THANKS

You can buy the dash cover (leather, vinyl or alcantara) here:
Robert Budd at Classic 9 Leather Shop.

http://www.classic9leathershop.com/9...r-porsche-928/

Or send it to Rob and he'll do it for you:

You can also contact Paul Champagne:

Looks like his site is having problem right now.

Leather is beautiful.

If the car is often park outside in the sun, I'd go with vinyl.

I've seen few dash finished in leather and they're real nice.
Definitely gives a luxury touch to the interior.
And with the contrasting stitches... Beautiful.

Is your original dash leather or vinyl?
If the rest of your interior is vinyl, I see little reason to have only the dash be leather. The 928 interior is such you really want the dash, center console, arm rests etc... to flow & be the same. This is why re-doing a 928 interior can get complicated & expensive fast. Upgrading the dash causes a domino effect around the interior if you change it.

Also, the quality of vinyl used today is far better than what our cars came with.

Or in Mokka's case (MY79) came with partial leather option and is listed on the COA. May need to ship that dash out of state to...pm sent. 77tony

I would go with vinyl for longevity's sake.

Plus today's vinyls are so good it can be hard to tell which is vinyl and which is leather.

You can order just the skin of the dash from Rob Budd and have it fitted by a local upholsterer.

Have you contacted Rob Budd @ Classic 9?
http://www.classic9leathershop.com/

He's the leading authority on period correct looking interior replacement pieces for our cars. He can provide an originally matching dash cover (in either leather or vinyl). You can either ship him the dash, see if he knows a local shop to do the work, or try installing the cover yourself.

It's a daunting task for sure. Rob actually has a detailed write-up on his site for removing the dash:

http://www.landsharkoz.com/forms/928_dash_removal.pdf

Just a thought.... if you go with Rob's work & just need the dash removed & shipped to him, you don't need an upholstery person. Any competent repair shop will be able to do the job. Dashes are removed all the time to fix heater boxes, heater cores etc....

A few different options to consider.
