Default GTS 5 speed Transmission in 928 S2, Speedsensor?

Hello,
I just got a 5 Speed GTS Transmission G28/57 and we want to convert an automatic car in a 5 speed.

Now we search a solution for the speed sensor. The car has the sensor at the diff and the GTS not.
Has anyone done the conversion? One idea is picking up the signal from the ABS sensor.
Thx!

the bigger question might be what to do with the PSD "limited slip" .....

You not only need to sort the speedo issue, but also the PSD as Jim noted, and also have to use or disable the oil cooler. It'd be a lot easier to use an earlier 5 speed with LSD.

Simple solution ... I'll swap you an early manual transmission with limited slip for the G28.57

You can "Block" the LSD at a fixed rate like 40%. Done on a racer from a friend of mine.
We will build a new oil cooler for the transmission.
This Trans cost me 5.000 $ . It's the perfect base for a high power Engine.
Maybe Gregs headers and exhaust would make me weak for an exchange. But than I need a better gearbox too.

Dave, nice try! ;-)
But I think I haven 't the patience to search another gts Box on ebay again.
Maybe you find earlier an living tasmanian wolf than the transmission. ;-)

Easy solutions are sometimes boring! This car has a new build S2 engine and the Automatik transmission and the charakteristic of the engine aren't a harmonic match.
The engine want to rev free and the grandpa gearbox hold it back.

My daily driver, an MY 2001 Audi S8, has a way better automatic gearbox. 5 speed and the torque converter has a clutch.
Nice car but a little bit on the fat side. Cornering isn`t so much fun.

As a farmer, my english reading skills are way better than my speaking. So sometimes my mind create words! ;-)
Beeing a farmer has one risk. You have way to much room to store parts and parts cars!
Luckily 10 years ago I shop a lot of things from ebay and mobile.de.

Now our cars going the way of all classic Porsches. Prices skyrocket!

Some friends thought I was mad to drive from London to Trier in 2008 to pick up 3 5-spd gearboxes - 1 brand new GTS, one used GTS and one brand new GT one for the total sum of £3k... Then in 2014 I flew to Stade to pick up Olaf Manthey's old 996.1 GT3 Club Sport for EUR40k... Guess who is laughing now

Nobody has intalled a late gearbox in an early car yet?

I put a "middle" gearbox into an early car. Putting a late PSD unit into a car with no support for it is a challenge. As some has suggested, you'd be better off getting a "middle" LSD unit that's all-mechanical. The later units are rare.

This is fun and informative:

To get a speed signal out of a G28.57 box, you'd have to change the diff carrier to a pre- '90 unit that will accept the speedo sensor wheel, and the rear transmission cover to accept the pickup. So you lose the gear-driven oil pump for the transmission and your PSD unit.

I think there are 8 (?) magnets on the sensor wheel, could you make an 8-magnet sensor wheel to sandwich between the halfshaft and output shaft of the transmission, and mount the pickup on the side of the transmission case?
