Default 928 mechanics in Dallas / DFW?

Guys,

I'm pretty new to Rennlist, but have loved reading up on 928's here. In fact I was so inspired that I just bought a 1989 S4 (5spd) from a friend-of-a-friend here locally in Dallas. This is my first 928 -- the kids promptly named her "Birgit". She has a great future ahead of her, but needs some sorting out. Birgit's prior owner only drove the car a few miles every 6 months or so. Far too much alone time in the garage.

Can anyone recommend Dallas area mechanics skilled with 928's? I am up for light DIY, but need expert help on the big jobs like TB/WP. Just want to make sure I know who in town has experience with these sharks (and time available on the calendar).

Note: I read the newbie thread thoroughly before posting, and did some searches for mechanic recs but the info seemed dated in the search results. Also I already left messages with both Roger and Sean via info on their websites, but have not heard back yet. So maybe I didn't get their right contact info? Any help from here would be appreciated.

Jason

Welcome.

You have purchased a 928 in the Mecca of 928-dome. We have many good mechanics, and a part supplier within walking distance of you. Perhaps best known is SeanR here on rennlist. You can reach him via PM, or he might be along shortly. Roger at 928srus.com will also be useful contact.

We have a monthly GTG in Arlington the first Sat of each month. Hope to see you there. Watch Rennlist for the location.

Congrats, how about posting some pictures so we can see the new shark?

Sean is one of the best 928 guys there is, the only challenge is getting on his schedule.

You need to call both Sean & Roger. They like that much better then facebook post, emails, snail mail or texts.

Thanks guys! I don't have many pics yet.

I'll upload a Day 1 photo my wife took as we drove into the garage. Notice the smile on the 15 year old daughter's face. She is a budding car girl for sure.

Yes, we drove it home .. but very gingerly with a +10 year old "brand new" timing belt / water pump installed. Also the "brand new" 12 year old tires were a bit on the crunchy side. We'll get her sorted out in due time.

I will definitely reach back out to Sean.

Agree with above. Sean and Roger are some of the best people around. They are extremely busy and there's a reason why they are. Be patient to get on Sean's wait list. You won't regret it.

Very nice blue s4, is it venetian blue?

welcome

Well the paint code on the sticker is L 37B, so I read that for 1989 that color would usually be called "Dove Blue Metallic". But I'd be open to hear if any experts here know otherwise. Also FYI, it was resprayed 2 owners ago to match the original color, is what I was told.

By the way, for those curious my avatar photo is a page out of the original 1989 Porsche Boutique catalog I found in the glove box. That sporty red track suit really reminded me of the good old days...

But if you don't bring the 928, you better bring lots and lots of detailed pictures.

You have lucked out, big time!! Sean is one of the best 928 mechanics in the US and I think Roger is the world's largest supplier of 928 parts. Both are extremely nice guys. The DFW group of 928 owners are a great group and we have a couple of big gatherings each year. My favorite is the November Third Coast gathering in Marble Falls. It has become one of the high points of my year. You have plenty of time for Sean, busy as he is, to get you ready for Third Coast.

Third Coast will show you how well your 928 performs on the rural twisties. I also encourage you to do some interstate touring in your 928. Mine has seen all three coasts since I bought it years ago. The highway cruiser performance just amazes me.

Brad
