Default spring markings

have been cleaning out my garage and have found a pair of front springs with 3 yellow paint markings on each spring.

is that a standard or stiffer spring rate?

cheers
Phil

Am also curious, what year are they?
my '85 springs have 3 green paint dots.
the '79 has one blue paint mark.

WSM Volume 4 - sections 40.46 and 40.47 show the tables for spring rates, lengths and signifying paint markings.

IIRC they markings were used to match springs. Spring manufacture back when was not a precise process.
So they checked the spring rate and color coded so they could match a pair.
The practice is no longer performed as the process became accurate. All the color coded springs now superseded to one part number relative to the application.

Spring fact - all springs are the same front and rear - 87 to 95 apart from the front springs on the CS, SE cars.

CS/SE springs had orange markings - those markings could be orange instead of yellow.
As far as I know there were never any yellow markings used on 928 springs.

My guess is you have a pair of the uber rare CS front springs - I will start the bidding at $200.
