Default Removal of Vac. Fitting on Cam Cover

What tool do you use to remove the vacuum fitting from the Cam cover on an 86 32V? It's a weird round nut with notches cut out. I've pulled back the lock from the washer, but can't remove it with needle nose pliers. Can't get enough torque. Any suggetions?

Regards,
JE

P.S. There is one at the other end that sits at the bottom of a 2 1/2" tube, so I need something that can get to the other one as well. Wish there was some special socket with an extention.

Can you gently tap it around with a straight blade screwdriver and a light hammer?......looks tough to get at though. Almost looks like a smaller version of the RDK tire pressure sensor nut.......and it has a special tool
to get it off.

I used an old common screwdriver and tapped it out CCW. There is an O-ring in there that would be a good idea to replace. Hope this helps.

The tapping with a screwdriver method should work for the one that doesn't have the tube around it. If you're taking off the one in the tube too, a sturdy long nose pliers is what I've always used. If it's really stuborn, stick something through the handles of the pliers for leverage. If the pliers isn't strong enough to get it off, make a tool out of a piece of pipe the correct diameter by cutting one end so that there are fingers to fit into the notches of the nut. Replace the "O" rings on the fittings once you have them out. The old ones will more than likely be about as pliable as uncooked spaghetti.

take a wide chisel and stick it across the opening and grab the handle with vise grips and turn

There is a tool available for removing the radio antenna nut on some cars that fits this. You can get it a NAPA. You can probably find it at Peboys or the one of the others but I'm not sure.

Or, - take a piece of steel the width = diameter of the nut, then grind/file/Dremel tool/etc to cut a slot leaving two prongs to fit the 'slots'.
Add the handle of choice (vice grigs, etc), and have at it -"custom tools" in 5 min.
