A couple audio questions
Speaker Question: For those of you with upgraded amps and speakers, what are your thoughts on the need for having speakers in the rear hatch area in the stock location? This would be 4" speaker for my 88S4. I've upgraded my door and B pillar speakers and the audio sounds very nice. My hatch speakers are dead, so I am considering adding some speakers back there but wanted to understand if it would make a difference.
Blaupunkt Reno Question: For those of you running the Reno SQR-46 head unit. How is your FM reception? In my car the FM reception is weak. Going through tunnels it goes partial to full static. Additionally there is static between stereo stations, whereas every other radio I have had suppressed noise if there was no reception. I have replaced my FUBA and made sure it is getting power and all the connections are good. Is this a head unit issue or is this a car antenna design issue? I have had similar vintage Audis with Blaupunkts and windshield antenna's and never noticed a reception issue. Just curious what others experience was.
Thanks,
Mike

On the first question: My feeling is if it sounds good then leave it as is. My car had a pretty good upgraded speaker system added by a PO, and neither of the two rear pairs of drivers were used (component doors and 3-way 6.5" rear only). From posts I've seen, seems like most people don't bother with them.

My little rear hatch speakers have never been connected, so this opinion is based in theory...but I would leave them disconnected, personally. Smaller speakers like that are going to be primarily upper-midrange and up. Not tweeters exactly, but they're not going to be supplying bass. Those frequencies tend to be directional, unlike the low bass notes, so putting them behind you (the driver, or anyone, really) would seem like something that would severely screw up your imaging. Ideally, you want it to seem like you're getting a stereo image from in front of you and you can even sometimes "locate" instruments in the music. These speakers are going to muddy that all up, I would think.

Hi Michael
I've got a couple Bremen SQR 46s, this is the Euro version of the Reno SQR 46. Mine have great radios in them. And the FM radios do not exhibit the behavior that yours seems to show.
The only real difference between the Bremen and the Reno should be that the Bremen has some extra radio bands including approximately the 60m band and longwave.
Regarding the speaker configuration, let's hope that "Hans14914" posts an answer. He apparently did a lot of testing to find the best configuration in 928 cabins.
Cheers, John
