Making headliner any suggestions
Heres the reason why: i removed the sunroof system and replaced with carbon/kevlar filler panel. The original headliner has the hole for the sunroof and a non sunroof 928 headliner doesnt fit.Im think about making it out of fiberglass matting (1 layer) and suggestions before i get involved. The real trick will be to get the headliner in the car after my cage is put in. The cage will be a 6 point with roof halo, down the window pillars, around the dash and to the floor with a bar across the sill.http://www.montanabros.com/about.html will be doing it

Lou ....why are you adding a cage ? it makes the car dangerous to drive on the street without a helmet , adds a lot of weight and makes it hard to get in and out .

Jim,
Im adding the cage to strengthen the body. For weight wise the car has pretty much been gutted. No sound deadener, power seats(replaced by momo fiberglass seats),no sunroof system, no back seats,no a/c system,no smog pump set up, no cat, no mechanical fan, no oem bumpers(fiberglass bumpers) and no oem seat belts seat belts(5 point harness installed). Dash needs to be replaced so i might just have it made out of carbon/kevlar by the same people doing the cage.To get in and out of the car im having him install the door cross bar along the sill instead of on a angle down the door so i can get in and out and not have to take the arm rest off. For safety of hitting my head on any bar when im not wearing my helmit i also installed 5 point harnesses on both sides to keep me strapped down) and im going to pad the halo bar.I just need to do something with the headliner as i said earlier, interior will be back in except the seats.Any sugestions on the headliner?

Lou,
Right on brother ! If I could (money, time, etc.) I would also get rid of that useless postal slot (IMHO) of a sunroof and get back some precious headroom while I'm at it. If I was doing a repaint on my car, then I would do the same thing as you and probably also gut and clean up the rear compartment area.

why not cut out the inner roof liner drip tray for the sunroof ( plasma cutter works great ) then it should accept the regular no sunroof liner . That removes some more weight . Seems like you have gone to a lot of effort to remove weight then add weight with a cage especially to a 928 body which is very , very strong to begin with in the passenger compartment ( the weak link is the front clip by design ) . So unless you are racing in a class which requires a cage ......

why not make it really smooth and slick? bring the sunroof hole to flush with the rest of the roof, then build a fiberglass interior roof panel that covers the halo of the cage too? if you really went crazy you might not even be able to see the cage at all... but maybe you wanna have it to look cool.

weight loss, weight gain.. stripped out with a cage looks fab, like a propper race car!
jim, which part is the weak link/front clip? is this where you see bars going forward through the firewall into the engine compartment/front fenders?

Oh right , on the track cars we usually remove the roof skin and use a no sunroof skin ....it also lets you weld the top of the roll bar better with no skin in the way ... Be sure that your cage ties into the "frame rails" and not the floor pan you might mount the main hoop where the rear seat bottom used to be , just above the rear lower trailing arm mounts .
