Default A tale of two AFM's-help required

Good Morning all,

As the weather here in the great white north gets milder I've had a chance to drive my new to me(5 months) 1982 L-jet car. This car sat for roughly 4 years and had lot's of needs. I am by know means a pro wrench but enjoy spending time in the Garage. I have spent the last 5 months going through most of the critical systems and car seems to be running and driving good. Just to give a quick background I have dropped fuel tank and cleaned, replaced fuel pump, filter, removed, cleaned and deoxit CE panel, replaced all fuses and relays with new, cleaned all grounds, replaced fuel lines with greg brown lines, had injectors cleaned, replaced injector fuel lines, brakes, wheel bearings, new rims, tires etc etc.

My question is on the AFM. When I do the resistance test as per the workshop manual on 2 different AFM's everything is perfectly in spec except for connections 6 and 9. Manual say's reading should be 400-800 ohms and I am getting 55KU on both units. One has been taken apart previously and likely refurbed but the other is still factory sealed. Is the manual wrong? or would both of these units be Fubar? Temp II tests within spec.

I have never driven another 928 but something just doesn't feel right under heavy foot(which is how I normally drive) so I think its the AFM but thought I would reach out to the most knowledgeable enthusiast forum.

Thanks all in advance for your help.

Sonny

Porsche mixed with other Afm info
You may want to take it apart and look at the wiper arm.

Thanks for the response. Was starting to get a complex as no one chimmed in as usual around here. I did indeed take my Spare AFM apart and go through the steps in the video. It still tests exactly the same as my other one which is odd unless the readings in the WSM are incorrect or both units are NFG.

I feel like a complete bonehead because as I was reassembling everything I noticed a broken wire to one of my fuel injector plugs. I must have broke it when changing out to the GB fuel lines a month or so ago. I soldered it up and took her for a spin. I would say its around 90% now.

Getting there slowly but on the right course.

One problem finding info on the AFMs is that they were only used on 80-84 US cars. The least popular and "least loved" of the 928s.

I have an 83 944 that uses an AFM (with a DME brain box). I have found a decent amount of info on the system over in the 924/944 forum.

You might try over there.
