Pulled my dead batter out. How many amps should I charge it at?
Hello All,
My car had been sitting for some time and the battery is completely dead. It's currently on a charger which works at 2, 10, and 50 amps. It's currently at 2amps. How long will this take? Is it ok to switch it to 10amps? I pulled the battery out of the car and it's charging on my garage floor. Thanks.

At 2 amps - 10-15 hrs gross estimate
At 10 amps - 6-8 hrs gross estimate
If your battery is on the bare concrete floor, place some cardboard under it. Pull the filler caps to vent the gas while charging.while your at it, fill with distilled water to the designated water level.
Please remember the times I quoted are rough estimates. Monitor your gauge, at zero you should be fully charged. If your charger is a manual type, make sure you don't overcharge your battery, you can burn it out very easily.
Personally, I would do the 2 amp trickle charge.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Drew. I'll follow your directions. I'll keep it at 2. The charger sounds like it's working much harder at 10 and I don't want to continue to watch over it. I'll put it back in tomorrow and hopefully she'll fire right up. Thanks again.

I agree with Drew, the only thing different I have done is to charge it while in the car. I use the positive terminal under the hood, but again like Drew, I only use the trickle charge.
The 928 electronics are very senstive so you have done it the safest way.

Agree. Charge at the lowest rate that fits your time scale. Curious about the 50 amp range. On by charger that's the "starting boost" setting, not a charging setting. Not sure what rate it's doing between attempts although the gauge needle is up there.
I do believe that the advice to not put a battery on cement is an old wives tale. Just keep it in a warm (40F+) place if being stored.
