Interesting mods to that engine. I'd have guessed "boat engine" from the design of the headers. Sheet metal covers? Perhaps a crankcase vacuum system or dry sump plumbed up? You mention it was connected to a transaxle but something isn't right about that and the exhausts. Maybe in the process of a conversion, or something.

The engine was mocked up with a Shelby CanAm transaxle. That's why it has the odd exhaust.
