Default Door Mirror Motor Frame Straightening

One of the cosmetic aspects of my '82 that has bugged me since I bought it has been the state of the passenger side mirror. The desk pad was broken and half was drooping under the mirror frame (fixed!), and the black plastic frame of the mirror motor stuck out from the metal portion of the mirror on the outside part.

Initially, I thought that it was a matter of there being a screw missing (much like myself), but as I removed it and compared it to the DS frame, I've observed an actual curvature of the frame.

It's a bit hard to see in the attached picture, but it's on the right side of it, and it juts out ~ 3/8" from the metal portion of the mirror when attached.

I was considering putting something heavy and flat on top, while I gently soften the plastic with a heat-gun on low in the hope that it would level out.

Anyone else have a similar occurrence, and if so - how did you address it (outside of buying a new one).

I can see what your talking about. I would try the same idea, get it good and flat and heat it up. You could try putting it in a boiling pot of water with some weight on top.

I would do the boiling water, but AFAIK the electrical portion of the motor inside the frame can't be removed.
