Default no brake/tail lights

ok here it is. 1982 , 5 spd, project car

just recently did the fuse panel overhaul, never had tail or brake lights.

i have all 4 turn signals, 4 way flashers, reverse lights, headlights high and low beam, and fog lights work.

front passengers running light and side marker work, thats it, no other running or side markers work , and my brake lights dont work.

the left running light fuse is new , but no power to the fuse, the right side fuse has power . all bulbs are good, no power at the bulbs. no power for running or brake light at the plug for the tail light assembly.

which plug at the bottom of the fuse panel has the wires associated with my issue ( thinking maybe something didnt get plugged in properly or bad wires)

also while searching someone posted about some 2 plug switch left of the ignition switch needs to be plugged in
9 anyone know or have a pic)?? my dash is currently out of the vehicle. ( all my light switches are plugged in and the gauge cluster is also plugged in.

Someone more failure with an '82 will need to chime in, but wondering do you have 12v at the two pressure switches on the Brake Master cylinder as those are a common failure point w/ early brake lights.

Also from your description have you checked the "Lamp Controller" the Flow Diagram is listed in "Current Flow Diagram Type 928 USA Model 82 Part V.

Brake, Tail running and Side marker lights all get powered "through" it, and it can be jumped out of the circuit if it is bad and you do not want to fix it correctly.

Dave K

Edit: per the diagram the Brake Lights are Fuse # 7 ( 8amp )

does your car have a passenger storage tray under the glovebox? ,
if not then the lamp control monitor is also gone with it.

NOTE there should be a brown 12 pin plug that is near the right side kick panel just under the dash board,
this would plug into the lamp controller without it you will not have brake lamps

Or Tail and side marker lamps per the '82 diagram which fits the problem description.

The bulb monitor is the black box above the fuse panel. Check it, and if it has failed, replace it or jump it.

Otherwise, check the rear ground behind the right side rear quarter panel, it may be corroded and causing the issues you are having.

well i downloaded the wiring diagram, traced my issue with the one fuse to a loose connection, and when i took the vdo box plug off and cleaned the connections, followed the diagram to wire it back properly ( the pic was wired wrong by me )all my running lights work except the right rear, i have power into the vdo box and none coming out, jumped it and now it works.. still no brake lights but im gonna replace the brake switch and go from there

Parking Light Contact is the Parking Brake, the switch is under it.
Your Brake Light switches are on the Brake Master Cylinder

Your doing a Good, so far

That parking light contact is part of the turn signal stalk. It adds parking lights on one side when the engine is off and the switch is moved. The lights on one side come on if the turn signal switch is not centered while parked.

It will not keep your lights from coming on.

ok so.... i replaced the one brake pressure switch on the master cylinder. still no brake lights.. i have power at the fuse, but, when i press the brake peddle it blows the fuse. i ruled out the brake pressure switch, cruise control module, and vdo box, by unplugging each to see if the fuse will pop, so then i unplugged plug S, brake pressure switch, and cruise control box and it still blew.

i took plug F out and checked wires ( all looked ok) i took out the fuse panel to look on the back side and all wires looked ok. i noticed the top wire from fuse 7 jumps to a few different relays including window, a/c fan, and the headlight relay ... with in the last few days, my headlights have been having issues going up and down and are now stuck up.
