Question what wire is this??

Can anyone identify the purpose of this wire???Here is a photo of a wire near my jumper post..long and square plastic covered... Its the wire to the upper left hand coner that is not connected to anything.. Am i missing a connection here or is it just an extra feed from the harness that means nothing..
1986.5. USA model. running rich and low on power...Dave.

Jim,

It's early morning for me. Look at the top left corner. It looks like a faded clear plastic square cover that is being used an insulator for a solderless connector that goes to the a/c.

I thought that was th bottom of the engine block. I don't see the a/c. since that is a coolant hose and no big red wires go to the a/c it's probably going to the back of the alt.

If you are missing the plastic cover over the jump start terminal, you can expect to have serious problems sooner or later. Water will get into the connections and cause corrosion...

It always helps greatly on wire identification if you give the wire color.

Looks like the terminations on the 3 red wires are already very corroded. I had to solder new rings on each of them. I also bought the plastic cover. It is cheap.

Less beer equals better vission.

Anyways, your right. It's in the top left corner, faded discolored plastic cover.

Lets try it again. Name that part

I have it on my 86.5 as well. Not connected to anything either...and the wire coming to it (thin...may be 20 AWG) is blue...or may be green...It was dark and I looked at it with a flashlight

Me too. Green wire to male plastic bayonet connector, with no connection. I do have a connection to my A/C compressor so I can't figure this one.

Ditto. Not connected to anything.
My guess is it's part of the standard wiring harness used in US and Euro cars, and it's a specific connection not used in the US cars.

yes its green and the platic connector I found was not connected to a friends 86 as well. He was complaining of lagging response from his engine as wellso I went over and we looked over his engine.. I would guess that its for an optional accesory or a test point for the tech in all of us..I do have the cover not to worry as I was going in there to clean things and coat with my Pro gold pen. Next is the relay board and connections from the tempII to the brain. Maybe car is not receiving all info it should from my almost new tempII. Maybe thats why she is running so rich

Dave,
that wire is part of a harness from the electric air valve to the a/c compressor. Dont worry theres 2 choices of connections, both connections are on the same line. The one in your pic(my 83 uses) and theres a simple male to female connection that the newer cars use.Shop Manuals 87-68 air conditioning.
