Default 928S Steering Rack rebuild question.

Purchased steering rack re-build kit and have an issue with blue nylon bushing. The new piece goes over a o'ring and is thicker than the stock piece. Has anyone had this problem?

Default From my old thread on this problem

. I rebuilt the steering rack with a kit from Rennbay. Everything went good and I will cross my fingers that it doesn't leak. A couple of seals were wrong in the kit. They were the ones on the center part of the shaft that seals the left side from the right. I probably didn't need to replace these seals(plastic and o-ring under) but I had already cut them off. I was able to find the seals at an aircraft seal supply place run by an old couple. They let/helped me look through the building until I found something that would work. I had to grind(Dremel) the non-critical inside diameter some to make this Delrin seal fit over its carrier. The rack boots were a struggle to install especially when my hands got tired from the struggle.

I have extras that have not been dremeled out. You would have to do that. PM me the measurements of the old one and your address and I'll put one on the mail if needed. Gunar

My kit is from the same company. It amazes me that there were no instructions and they provided o'rings that don't seem to go with the rack and left key o'rings out. I could use the original o'ring and plastic ring, but the whole idea of rebuilding a 34 year old rack is to replace everything or at least let us know not to remove something.
Thanks for the info.

The reason you may end up with extra unused seals is the seal kit fits several models and years of pumps.

I have no other bushing of the type that you are showing, either. The blue bushing should be the right one and sure looks like it isn't. If you could give me dimensions of your used nylon bushing, I would be happy to call around for you.

Hi Carl,

so when you rebuild the racks, you either don't replace the o'ring / Teflon washer or haven't come across the blue Teflon washer? The blue Teflon washer fits nicely without the o'ring, but I would think it would leak with out the o'ring.I have a call into Rennbay, waiting to hear what they say as well.

I do not rebuild the steering racks. We sub that out to a specialist, and he does not use this kit, so I am sorry i cannot tell you what seal he would use in this situation.

I like that you called Travis at Rennbay, and I think the answer is correct that the blue bushing provided replaces the two parts. Travis will know.

Spoke with Travis at Rennbay, and he said the Blue Teflon seal replaces both the o'ring and white Teflon washer.
