Headliner repair
Hello all -
The front and back of my headliner are warped/falling apart (apparently from a sunroof leak). My headliner material looks quite good. Has anyone ever tried to reinforce the bad areas with fiberglass mat or some other material? I don't really want to take the material off of the cardboard because it does look good.

IIRC, Uneekone had this on his list of to-do's, utilizing fiberglass repair, back in late 2016. Not sure if he's completed it yet, but might want to ping him to see what his plans are.

What area is bad? I have reformed some warped areas in one of my cars. I have not used a fiberglass backing/reinforcement. When finished the original tabs held piece in place as intended.

I have used fiberglass on the rear quarter panels with great success (similar pressboard as the headliner).
I plan to do the same to the damaged headliner as good used non sunroof headliners are hard to come by.
I don't see how it wouldn't work, just keep in mind that the fiberglass will stay in its final shape and wont change over time like the original material.

Good points. I'll try to snap some pictures and post, but basically the two problem areas are the front lip where the liner meets the windshield (it is supposed to be up "tight" to the edge of the windshield glass - but it is warped down about two inches or so right at my head. The screws that hold the visors in pull it ip some, but nowhere near enough. Pass side is same way.
In the back, it is a mess where the liner meets the small piece of liner on the hatch. Same issue - just warps down a few inches.

Would love to see some detail on how folks are fixing theirs...
esp. if it can be done in-car...

Bump. Anyone with a fix for front leading edge of headliner? Mine is pulling away from windshield due to leak from sunroof on drivers' side.
It's the only problem with the headliner so would love to save it instead of replacing...
does the water bottle method work? Was going to get a few pieces of pvc and something to prevent marks (probably just a towel or similar) on the headliner itself...

I have done it on the rear roof panel in my 944, it was difficult since it is curved in all directions so end result was not what I wanted, ended up buying a glassfiber panel from 944online. If you just want a straight edge or plane surface you can just glassfiber it and put it between 2 wooden boards and some c-clamps and let it cure into the right shape, my rear quarter panels in my 928 are warped, not too bad so I will leave the as is but when the day comes I will definitely try the glassing route. I think I have read about people wetting their panels so they can dry into the right new shape while under pressure from clamps and what not, but I can´t remember on which board I read that, Think it was the upper part of the door panels that tend to warp when people forget the window open in the rain.

I just got done using some water & steam to soften the board on mine, then clamped it in place and let it dry. That got the warp out of it. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...l#post16252918

Is there a good write up available somewhere? I have been google-ing my *** off trying to find a good method to fix this warped roof panel. I read a lot about using fiberglass but I still haven't figured out how to use it. Whats the procedure? Can somebody please explain? Many thanks!

Follow the instructions for the resin and apply it and the fiberglass mat to the headliner.
The fiberboard material it is made from readily absorbs the resin and makes a solid bond with the mat.
Just be sure the fix it in a jig so that it hardens into the shape you want!
