Default fuel injectors

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am looking at changing my injectors in my car. I was doing some reading on the forum and found that some people are putting in ford injectors #19. WOuld these work for my year of 928? Is there anything else I should replace while I am changing these? Thanks

I don't think those will work for you. I believe you have L-Jetronic and that system uses low impedance injectors. (2-3 ohms) I may be wrong and if so someone else will know.

what would be a proper injector to use then? Is there any really good performance aftermarket injectors out there?

Johnny what is wrong with your injectors ? perhaps that is the question . There are companies which will flow and test yours or "rebuild them". The rubber hoses can be replaced . Putting in larger injectors would do little to improve performance you can get the same end result by bumping up fuel pressure but probably little or no gain in power .

There isn't anything really wrong with them. I am in the process of restoring my 928 and I thought that since the car has about 100miles on it that I would pop in new injectors. I heard that they should have some kind of service done to them if they have been used for over 80miles. This car has been sitting for around 6 years now. I just finished redoing the rear suspesion and breaks, redid the interior with new leather and I am working my way to the engine area now. I have to change the tranny pan gasket and fluid because I have a little leak there. I also have to change the cam tower gaskets becuase I have some oil sitting in the bottom of that V on top of the engine. Is it easiest to pull the engine when doing this? I also have to change the timing belt and the water pump as well. is there anything else I should be looking at? Thanks

Johnny,
I had Rich at www.cruzinperformance.com service mine. Tested and cleaned for a reasonable price with flow sheets from before and after.

Johnny, Lonnie is correct with the suggestion for Rich at Cruzin Performance. He also did mine and did them a great service. If you go with him let him know that you found out about his service on this board.

that seems like a good idea. How much will I be looking at roughly to get all 8 of them serviced?

$11 each plus shipping, so probably around $100 total.

Rich does an excellent job on the injectors. If he finds a cracked injector body, he can replace the body cheaply as well. If the service needs to be rushed, talk to Rich about it.

My final bill from Rich on 03-09-02 was $130.34 that was with shipping. I sent him the fuel rails and injectors. He flow tested and cleaned 8 injectors @ $15.00 each and n/c for o-rings, hoses, seals, screens and pintle cap. And at the bottom of the bill a GOOD suggestion of "Remember to replace your fuel filter".

Just flow check them yourself. I built a flow testor out of a 2 liter coke bottle and a valve stem. It works well for applying pressurized fuel to the injector and then you can use a 9 volt to hold the injector open.

If the car ran fine, they are probably fine, but you can check for balance on all 8 by measuring the flow of the injectors over a given period of time. At a minimum, I would cut off the crimped on hoses and replace them with cloth braided hose....don't use just rubber hose, as these will spray fuel all over the place in the event of a failure. Thise hose end injectors always leaked badly when the hoses dry out...this is the reason they are no longer used. Find a local Bosch injection shop and pick up some new screens. You can flow some carbon clean through them to help clean them up. I used some Sea Foam on my old ones and it worked quite well.

The injectors on your car should flow 112 to 115 cc in 30 seconds. It is a 235 cc/ minute injector or neer that amount.

They are L-Jet low impedance injectors around 3 ohms. I use 914 1.7 liter injectors in my car which are set up to the equiv. of a 40 lb injector at 60 psi on the fuel rail.

I don't think any other inejector will offer better performance. There are Lucas style ones out there, but the Bosch are supposed to be the best.

John

So if i put in a set of 914 injectors they should work on my car? How much is a set? I might just put in those and keep my others for backup. Also If I put in the 914 injectors can I use the seals they come with or do I have to get new seals.

How many horsepower does your 81 twin turbo put out? It must be pretty quick.
