Cruising through CL last week I came across 5sp 86.5. It's been sitting for 3 years outside in the Central Valley. It runs she said but I would need a trailer. $1000 come get it. I couldn't get there fast enough. Like she said it runs and the brakes work and it steers. All the ball cups in the shifter are gone, but i could grab 1st to get it on the trailer. Parts car or restore is the question.
You should totally restore it! It looks like it will clean up well! I have some speaker grills for you and some other small parts depending on what you need
Might as well go through it first, then decide. An oil change may tell you a lot. Any documentation? Can't go wrong at a grand. you got a steal either way.
Heh, I saw this as well, figured it would get scooped up quickly and glad it was you that did so. It seems like a good restore candidate but probably a better "deal" as a parts car since you know first hand how slippery the restore slope can be. Another option would be to do a thorough mechanical inspection and then get it roadworthy enough to drive. You can sell it on to someone who would then have the option to do a rolling restoration or take that path yourself.
It doesn't need to one extreme or the other...that's a perfect candidate for a daily driver.
I'd love to get a killer deal on a respectable looking 928 that I could drive to any store and not have to worry about it sitting in the parking lot.
Good news is that it's an 86.5, which as we all know is one of the more desirable cars. When I first spoke to her I asked if there was a "G" in the VIN. Off to the races....
It was in Ceres Ca, just south of Modesto. Fun fact: this is where "Two Buck Chuck" comes from.
Now leaning on restoring it. No history, other than new head gaskets 3 years ago which meant the motor came out? NEW radiator!
Need to do some serious motor detective work, change the oil etc. CLEAN IT
It needs to be painted which would not be all that difficult. Rub strips would come off. Lots of critters on the under side.
Off the the steam cleaner.
