Default OB front aluminium bumper will fit a S4 928/

This thread is for future reference, in case someone faces the same situation that I did a month ago.

Had a Japanese S4 in for a front bumper cover replacement. After removing the wheel well liners, it became apparent that the aluminium bumper was badly damaged (this car had no pumper shocks, just solid tubes between the bumper and the chassis). I've tored locating a replacement S4 aluminium bumper locally but none was available. However plenty of pre-S4 bumper were around so I bought one from an '80 and decided to modify it to fit the S4 bumper cover. To my surprise, very little was needed to get the cover to fit. The signal brackets at the end of the bumper(riveted on at the factory) had to be drilled off and removed (5 minutes) and then the bumper cover was ready for a test fit and it almost fit. The top corners of the aluminium bumper were touching the cover so I used a cutting wheel in an angle grinder and cut about a 2"x1" wedge off the top corner of the aluminium bumper (5 minute work with the pumper installed on the car). The bottom corners didn't need to to touched. And that's about all that was needed to make it fit. To get the wiring harness to reach the driving/fog lights pockets, a hole needs to be drilled in the aluminium. In my case the wiring harness needed repairing so the owner will extend them to no require the hole cutting. So in essence, a pre-S4 aluminium bumper can easily fit an S4 if the proper one isn't available.

As a side note: The early bumpers are heavier than the S4 and feel a lot stronger too.
