Angry Engine Temperature - running cold

Hi,
Last week my "check engine light" came on. Everything else was normal. Took the car to the Porsche dealer and they hooked it up to the computer. The error code gave "fluid temp sensor" as the cause. They wanted me to leave the car with them to diagnose which of the "three" sensors the error message was referring to. No problem to keep the car running and drop it off with them when more convenient.
Over the weekend the temperature gauge started reading low at 110 - 140F instead of 170 - 180F. It can also fluctuate quite quickly between 110 - 140F sometimes having no reading at all (less than 110F). The volt meter is also running slightly high at 14 instead of 13. I thought this may be because the fans were running constantly and this may cause the engine to run colder. However when stopped the fans were not running and only kicked in after a couple of minutes. Everything else is fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

The cheapest, fastest, and simplest thing to do would be to bring your car to my house and let me switch your temp sensor with the extra one I have and see if it solves the problem. Could also be a ground.

Definitely something wrong with one of the temp sensors. I'm thinking radiator fan switch is stuck closed. This would probably make the fans run all the time when the engine is running......but would not make then run after the engine is switched off. The temp II sensor supplies info to the engine computer......but can't remember if it has anything to do with fan
control.......I think this is left up to the radiator switch, intake manifold switch, and A/C pressure switch. Try disconnecting the radiator fan switch on a cold startup, if the fans don't run........and then run as soon as you reconnect it......with the engine still cold......that's probably your problem.

Ernest: Isnt't that something? Your shark is too hot blooded and this one is cold blooded. I wonder how the two would get along... ;-)

Nicole,
Roger is coming over tomorrow, he THINKS, to try the new temp sensor. What he doesn't know is that my trusty assistant Igor and I are planning to do a cooling system transfusion!
Frau Bleucher (NEIIIGGGHH) will be serving Ovaltine.

Pheeew!!
That was lucky - a cooling system transfusion I can stand - I thought someone was going to suggest we introduce them with propagation in mind....
