Well, looks like Tony wins. Spent some time with Joel at Northpoint Foreign in Alpheretta. I picked his brain and access to working parts etc. and the problem was the setting motor. I am running on a borrowed one from Kevin B. and will be trying to find the fault with mine or getting a new one. Sure was nice to drive home with fresh cool outside air coming thru the vents. Oh the AC is colder too.

Congrats on solving the mystery Ed and Joel! I'm going to be in ATL around Christmas...will probably bring-up my S4 for Joel R to service at that time as well...perhaps we can meet up. Hey, isn't WallyP in the area too?
Look forward to it...
Best,
Tim

Angry Setting Motor Update

For those interested. I have been testing the control boards inside the setting motor for the hvac system. My problem appears to be a pot on the board that seems to tell the motor where it is. Both boards had the Behr name and part numbers on them so I contacted Behr. Here are the emails.
-------------
Bemerkungen: I have a 1987 Porsche 928 S4. There is a fault on the
controller boards for the setting motor for the hvac. The boards are
numbered:90.901.02.329 and 90.901.02.739 I live in the southeastern US and
would like to source either replacement boards or service. Your prompt
response is appreciated.
------------
Dear Mr. Taylor,

I have checked our system for availability of the part. We have never sold
it. I have also checked with Germany. The parts seem to be no longer
available. I could not find a Porsche number for the parts so I must assume
that the boards are a component of a spare part that Porsche would not sell
individually. Please check with your local Porsche dealer for more
information.

These boards are located inside of a Behr Control Mechanism Porsche Part Number 928.624.129.00. The boards and the mechanism case have the Behr name on them as well as the Behr part numbers that I quoted in my earlier post. This same basic controller was not only used by Porsche but a varient of it was also used by Mercedes Benz and possibly others. I was inquiring of the availability of these boards as epair parts for your Control Mechanism. Hope this information can be of assistance in this.

Dear Mr. Taylor,

The Porsche number 928.624.129.00 is the same as Behr number 94.181.45.109. This number is only available to Porsche and is not sold to the aftermarket. Please see your Porsche dealer for availability.

So NO aftermarket, Won't sell replacement service parts. The same motor that is used on some Mercedes has different boards in it I've looked.
Just a Rant. It's always been a pet peeve of mine when manufacturers don't support the products they sell in a way that allows one to repair the item without buying unnecessary parts. There. I'm better now.( Not really)
