I thought I'd do a RMB on my 85 and it opened up a can...
1st try was the straight pipes with a screened tube and fiberglass packing left over from my crf450x. Local muffler shop did the work for $30.
It sounds great from 2890-2950-almost Italian, but a Carolla with a coffe can else wise. Also no back pressure back fires.
2nd was a small box resonance chamber, I fired up the old wire welder. Sounded great but only occasionally. Blew all the packing out the rear.
Today i spent another $28 and 4 hours and built the chambered one.
I've got about 8 hours in the experiment and less tha $84 bucks total.
Mid level growl and fairly docile at idle. "Something Suspicious" exhaust. No sticker included.
Try Spintech, they will custom make you a muffler to your specs if the don't have one in stock that fits your application.
They sound pretty good too. I had one on my 81 and only had to replace it as it was starting to rust after some time. They do make stainless ones so that shouldn't be an issue.
