How to drop the steering rack to remove motor mounts, 1981 model.

One thing I forgot to mention, on the steering rack there is a plug on the front side right at the steering gear. If you remove this plug when the rack is at dead center there is a indentation. This is to help the technician set the car up for alignments. It sets the rack at true center. This might help, if you get messed up a little later on. There is a bolt that you can get with a taper that keeps it there, but not necessary I just put my new rack there centering it with my eye. The rack is pretty tight and won't move to easy.

Take a close look at those bushings in the rack mounting ears. Few "rebuilders" actually replace them, while most leave the old ones in place. The rubber is a catch-magnet for any oil or power steering fluid that leaks, plus the heat under there isn't great for long life. Put a set of Roger's Delrin bushings there while you have it apart, and gain a little more positive steering in the process. Adjust the tightening torque of the four pinch bolts to about 20 lbs/ft if you make that change.

Thanks Doc, will do.
I'm all about the WYAIT.
Actually I think WYAIT is a terminal illness.
The treatment is certainly.... expensive and time-consuming!!
