Hagerty provided a generous check, and very quickly. If I put it in a special account just for 928 purposes, it would last a long time - assuming that I do all the work, of course. I've already used it for the AC parts and a big new tool cabinet.

I've gotten the tree damage all fixed for spring, but spring is not holding up its end of the bargain. New bumper cover and new spoiler. Not visible, but there are two new splash guards, a used skid plate, and a new air duct/vane assembly. Other new things: AC compressor, drier, expansion valve, hood liner and rear signal cluster.

Back inside now.

You'll want to travel through a wooded area during a windstorm, on a moonless night, with the aid of an oncoming driver who shines his headlights at you as you approach a cooperating tree. It must be a dead tree - not too big - that spreads bark bits and twigs as it smashes onto the pavement, increasing braking distance. Original, 1980's era headlights are a must.

I almost feel like returning money to Hagerty. Almost. I need to call them soon about insuring a 1983 911 SC - a friend has offered a trade for my Cayman (it tends to go way too fast). I hope they'll be gentle with me.

Curt - Your experience with Hagerty impressed me. I'm with USAA, regular full coverage. About a year ago they sent me a letter telling me I may not have enough insurance on my car, or the right kind of insurance, and suggested classic car insurer they work with (too expensive). USAA probably noticed my stated annual mileage is very low....and the letter came after all those "better buy one now while you can" articles. I interpreted the letter as confirmation that values are rising.
