Agree, I have a "power bulge" on the blue Strosek car which will add about two inches of extra room for a high riser intake. Unfortunately the bulge is too short to allow for an over the cooler air intake. With time I will get another hood for the necessary modifications in order to allow for a long runner ITB intake system.
Inspite of what Hacker thinks, the three wide body cars I have always bring much more attention compared to the more plain looking stock 928 cars everywhere we go.

Intake Manifold design proceeding... now we are just working out the final mount for the throttle body and the fuel rail mounts... hope to have a finished manifold to show all within 3 weeks.

Here are some ideas from Tom at 928 Dreaming that he sent me.

Each of these raise the hood 2".

Our new intake manifold (which you should be seeing soon) is 1/2" taller than he OEM one, so technically it fits under the hood. Its going to be close. We needed that last 1/2" to get the harmonics right.

Anyway, here are some of Tom's efforts. See what you think. I know which one I like best, but I will not share that info now so I don't prejudice your thoughts.

I like the power bulge a lot, and on the green and orange race car he has, you can barely notice it. I think on the Devore car, you wouldn't notice it at all because it's all bulging anyways.

Man, that guy has talent.

You can see two hood scoop styles here. On the Orange/Green car the breaks along the hood scoop are more rounded than on the red and white 928 versions. Also, the hood scoop starts a little later on the Orange-green car; and earlier (closer to the front) on others.

I think that if the rear of the hood bulge is extended all the way back to the windshield, it would be less noticable, and IMO, a good thing.

Plus, one would have access to a cool-temperature, high-pressure air source at the base of the windshield for the engine.

Not the best pics, but kind of like this?

Cowl-induction is fun. Tends not to perform until the speeds are high enough, but it does work.

Here is a graphic that Porsche published. You can see that the pressure at measurement points 11, 12 and even 13 are all positive. What we do not know from this chart is what air speeds they were running when they made these measurements.

I'm not sure how the windshield wipers may spoil that, but I think your idea is worth considering.

I've asked Tom to draw one up with even softer radius's on the breaks, and to carry the scoop all the way to the back of the hood. We will lose the windshield washer spritzers - they could be installed by the owner on the flats on each side of the scoop.

Lets see what he comes up with.

Default Intake Manifold renderings

These two renderings show the intake manifold with the closed top, and a peak as to what's under it.

The finished manifold is 1/2" higher than OEM, but should still fit under the hood. I'm still looking at making the hood with the speed-bump anyway

The intake manifold is being finish-welded now, and I should have it soon. Then we will go to the engine dyno with it and we will see what we got! The numbers the flow software gave us suggests it's going to be a pretty significant improvement.

The throttle body mounting plate is designed to accept LS1 throttle bodies, so there are a lot of choices, and they are relatively inexpensive.
