Cool (or hot), Stan. I kind of like the $7990 one.
I was thinking of doing something similar with my arc welder and using a very heavy electrode. I could maybe hook my welder ground clamp on the front engine crank bolt since it is kind of accessible and nice bare metal and then contact the welder electrode to the head of the bolt, but without striking an arc and see if that would heat the bolt.
I noticed when walking past my mill in the shop and while waiting for some glue to dry and set (both) I noticed a set of Door Shims laying on it that were still in the stage of fabrication; so I took a little time to set the mil up and finish them. I was also trying to postpone or even avoid going outside and spraying my weeds.
I got them finished up except for some hand work to deburr them. I still have a good supply of these in my toolbox, so I thought it a good idea to bump this thread in case anyone is in need of some shims to lift their 928 door.
I sent a couple of shim sets to Kurt in Europe recently and he had success in lifting both of his 928 doors. These are still available for those in need.
I'll put them on next spring when I'll take the car out of storage.
Can't work inside the car inside the garage. Not wide enough to fully open the doors...
I haven't heard anything lately about anyone needing to lift the rear of their 928 door or otherwise move it to correct the gaps, so I thought I would bump this thread about the shims I still have available. I send them without charge when needed, but I don't send them just for anyone to "have on hand."

Hey Jerry, first of all, thank you for the gas cap pawl you provided me a couple of years back, you are truly generous in sharing your creations and I appreciate your efforts. I'm struggling with the driver-side door on my GT. If you still have supply, I could really use a set of shims.
My door when latched, has uniform gaps all around, however when unlatched, immediately drops by about 3/8"-1/2". I'll PM you my address if you still have them.
Hi Marc. That sounds like quite a bit of adjustment needed to lift the door. I think the shims will do it, but I hope the hinge pin is not badly worn.
I usually send three shims in a kit, one each of 020 or 025, an 032, and an 040. They can be used in various combinations to get as much as3 1/2 times the thickness in lift. I also happen to have a very few in 050 and 063, so I am going include one of each of those so you will have plenty.

Thanks so much Jerry. The PO was a bit of a food aficionado and I suspect he used the door to support his weight as he dropped into and climbed out of the car. I’m worried the problem may be more serious than shimming will correct, there is not much clearance between the top of the door and fender as it is. I’m going to bring it to my body guy along with the shims, bodywork is not my forte and i dont want to chew up the leading-edge of my door while i fumble around.
