44 front - sounds way too high.

What size tires?

I run my 18s at 40 front, 38 rear.

The 36 (front) and 44 (back) was Porsche recommended pressure for cars that had 225/50-16 front and 245/45-16 at the back.

Those pressures, particularly at the back, are quite high on modern tires.

I drive mines (225/50-16, 245/45-16 Bridgestone R11) right now at 32 cold.
They wear evenly and are quite comfortable.

The 'stock' pressures are for circa-80s tires and running flat-out on the autobahn. Modern tires can dissipate heat much better and can be safely run at lower pressures which leads to a better ride and better grip.

If you're running 225s on all four corners then 36 all-round is totally fine and possibly a bit higher than necessary.

Those would be cold tire pressures, the pre '87 (US) 928's , did not have staggered wheels, (rears wider than fronts), so the higher pressure for the rears was designated to help counter balance the understeer.

Not necessarily lower pressures okay for modern tires and autobahn speeds. My 07 BMW X3 with sport package had it's top speed limiter raised from 120 to 150. On the door sticker it had normal pressures you would expect, but also had a note for 6psi higher pressures both front and rear for speeds over 100. And the only tires made the size to fit it were Pirelli Rossos, considered a high speed rated tire.

Default 1,2,3,4 pressure

My '86 is very sensitive to tire pressures. When I bought new tires the tire place set them at 36/36 and the car felt very vague to me. I reset them to 36/44 as per the label on the car and the handling dramatically improved especially highway tracking.
