Anyone know what happened to this car?
http://www.928registry.org/1989-928GT-1209.htm
This was the exact car I wanted. No side trim, beige interior, 40,000 miles. I'm not remorseful. No, I just bought a GT. In fact, it hasn't even been delivered yet. But to have this one get away sort of hurts. The only way I can justify feeling ok about it is to say to myself that it was just about to need a bunch of work. Yeah, right. I can't get over it.
It's hard to believe what an obsession the 928 can be.

Scott. Can I hide now? I was really hoping you wouldn't see this post. Yeah, I called the number. It's just a used car lot. The car sold for around 19,900. But when I saw the miles, I had a fit. Of course, I haven't even seen the car I just bought, and it appears to be fantastic. But the thought of only 40k miles just keeps weighing in on me. Actually, it's not even the mechanical condition as much as the diference in numbers. I don't know, maybe it's all mental. No, it is mechanical. I don't need to explain. You know. Three grand difference and a virtually new car. So my mindset changed on the car I just bought. I really didn't need that.

It's only about a $300 - $400 difference once you figure shipping in the equation. I can still take it off your hands if you wish to get a different GT. Shipping will be cheap for me.

Oh no! JE. I just knew I was asking for it when I posted this. Just wait. I'll get my car, find another, and you'll end up with mine after all.
The trouble is that there are so few GT's that I'll take what I get. I'm not complaining. This car has everyone's seal of approval. It's really a matter of cv joints, tranny rebuild, camshafts, wheel bearings. Otherwise, everything else has been done to my car.
Hey, I wonder what it's like to get married and then meet the perfect girl...

Standard anxiety and concern after making a big purchase. Very understandable.
You keep getting hung up on the miles. While that is a factor, there are many other things I don't see mentioned:
1. This is the earliest known 89 GT in the US...possibly the first one ever built. As a 928 collector this adds value.
2. The car is documented from day one. (Most cars from lots don't come with receipts because they don't want you to know what HASN'T been done to the car)
3. All body VIN tags are matching...thus no major accidents.
4. No sign of body repair...thus untouched/original
5. All major/normal/expensive 928 repairs done (per receipts)
In MHO this is 1 of 5-or-so, holy grails of 928s. Give me a few months to get back on my feet and you will have a guaranteed buyer any time you want to sell it!!!

Hi guys, I looked at this car a few months ago and I hope that I am wrong but it looked like it had some paint work done to it. If memory serves, the mileage is unknown because of the odo failing and being replaced by the dealer. It will be titled as a TMU (True mileage unknown.) It was a beautiful car though. At the time I went to see this car there were 3 '89 GTs for sale in the Denver area. I have seen more than 20 for sale nationally in the past 1.5 years. They are rare but not impossible to obtain. Perhaps I missed something, are you having "buyer's remorse" over buying/did you buy shaaark89's GT?

john,
he's talking about the 40k mile car.
i would have the same remorse at first. but considering there may be several (if not more) thousands of dollars in necessary maintainence and small issues with a car that has no records, i would get overit pretty fast.

Yep. It's not much of an issue. To post or not to post, that is the question. Now I know you are vigilantly watching this forum. I'll not whine so loudly.
And I'm still under the mentality that a vehicle is dead at 150k miles. I should know better. My '79 has nearly 170k miles, and it feels new. It even smells new. End of subject. I just insured the car. Let's have fun.
Ok, back to my garage addition.

Dead at 150K.....hell with that...on a shark it's just getting broken in. I don't know what it's like to own a shark with less than 100K.
