Default 2016 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta

Any 928's heading to Road Atlanta this week for the Petit Le Mans?

We'll be there on Saturday. I'll be with my son in the 88 five speed.

We will be parked in the Porsche Corral. Anyone else going..?

Come on down Lou. Tickets are always available for purchase at the gate on the day of the event.

They've been running practice sessions yesterday and today, and will be again tomorrow.

The actual twelve hour endurance race is on Saturday (that's the only day we're able to go).

But I have some 911 buddies that are already up there and have been sending me texts.

Including some pictures of 928's, so I know there's already some other sharks in the corral...

I have a $50 corral parking pass that I will sell for $20 if anyone is interested. I'm in Greenville SC. Meet you off I-85 if your driving by.

Mark,
Would love to meet up, but I am still in Maggie Valley. Two of my sons are at turn 10a "camping out" just below the corral.

Hi Dave,
I thought you had said you were gonna be RV camping at the track this week.
I was planning to text you when we got there tomorrow.
Are you coming for the race tomorrow, or not able to come at all this year?

Also, I misspoke. It's 10 hours (not 12) or 1000 miles - whichever comes first.
It's a really outstanding track. 2.54 miles and 12 turns.
Between walking and shuttling, I plan to show my son every bit of it...

Mark,
Mark,
That was my plan, but life seems to get in the way of plans. I love Road Atlanta, a great track. Have been going there for many years. (Mark Donahue and 917's come to mind!) We have bought a new home in Dahlonega, and are still in Maggie Valley as of now. Had some mechanical setbacks with the RV and also Lindas DD. Fixed now, but budget and time are both depleted for now.
Will be back down in a week or so, then move first of Nov. Planning for Daytona and Sebring, however. Everything should be back on track bt then.

Can't this weekend, but one of these days. I LOVE Road Atlanta. Got to do a few laps of lead-follow back in '04, running at about 8 tenths, and what a blast! I was always used to seeing the track from the drivers perspective on various televised races, so it was so freaking cool to see that same view through MY windshield! Great track. Y'all have fun.

PBkirby, I didn't even know there were any 928 Rennlisters in G'ville. Seen a few 928's over the last 20 years here, and even talked to a few owners, but I could never seem to find one who was a fellow Rennlister.

What an incredibly fun day at Road Atlanta yesterday!
The weather was absolutely perfect, and the race was competitive and entertaining.
When we arrived, we discovered that my 911 buddy had rented a golf cart for the day.
What an outstanding way to get around, and be able to see everything.
We used it to systematically work our way around the entire property throughout the day.
So we were able to watch a portion of the race from LITERALLY every single vantage point.
The race went the full ten hours, and we stayed till the end, so we had a nice long day.
We ended the day back inside the Porsche tent, watching the finish on the big screen.
I counted seven other 928's inside the Porscheplatz Corral.
On our way home, my son was already talking about next year's event...

Sorry. I'm fairly lazy about taking pictures, especially when someone else already is.
(just rarely worth the hassle and risk of having to set my beer down somewhere).
So unfortunately, all of the pics are residing on my son's iPhone.
I will see about getting some of the best ones from him.
(although many are of him hugging all the scantily clad babes that were everywhere!).
He did capture some very impressive video from our perch at Turn 6.
Of all the locations, I think that's about the closest one can get to the actual track.
And the cars cut it really sharp across the strips, just a few feet in from the fence.
We happened to be there on a re-green after a caution, so the cars were nicely bunched.
Also got some great close up shots of all the cars as we walked the starting grid.
His favorite is of him with Christina Nielsen (the only female driver) next to her Ferrari.
