Unhappy Unknown connector under fuel rails.

I Just pulled out my drivers side fuel rails in preparation of cleaning my fuel injectors, and intake manifold. Upon pulling off the driver side fuel rail covers, i came across a female connector which was unattached to any male plug. the connector was the last in the series of wires which were sheathed together with the fuel injector wires and the flap vacuum valve wire connector. it seems as though this is original to the system but was unconnected. the car has been driving well but a little rich. can anyone help me out with what this connector is and where it should be attached to? I have been looking through the manuals but have not found this piece yet. there does not appear to be any male connector to mate with this female.

Thanks.

I believe I just found my answer. i think it is the knock sensor connector, but i still don't see the male piece this should be connected to. How would this affect engine performance since i assume it has not been connected since i bought the car from the PO?

I think it will retard the timing if the computer doesnt have an input from the LH...im not sure though? Seems like a fail safe mode of operating to me?

is the plug round?

this may help..

The knock sensor connector should be a square-ish connector and should be fixed in a connector holder bolted onto the top of the left side front timing belt cover. The other end should come from under the intake in front of the engine.

The knock sensor is a Bosch 3 pin - all the others are two pin (like the temp sensor)

It is a three pin connector and matches the knock sensor connector on the passenger side. the problem i'm emcountering now is finding where the male connector is. it's nowhere to be found - but i haven't lifted off the intake yet to see if it's fallen under there. i'm still removing my injectors.
