Wink 88' S4 with salvage title on Ebay for "But it Now price" $5500

This seems like a scary one. Low enough price, but seller says all parts still have factory vin stickers on them so he can't tell why totaled. I am guessing a flood car. Man, if thats the case, I could just imagine the nightmare electrical issues you could end up with.

Maybe after a very intensive PPI.

Anyways, Thoughts and opinions?

A theft recovery will often result in a salvage title being issued. I don't know about this one. The engine compartment picture is pretty dark but it doesn't look like there is any paint at all on the intake. The rear console is not in very good shape either. Doesn't look like much of a deal from here.

Might run better with plug wires on BOTH distributors.

Carfax should indicate whether it is a flood car, no?

I wonder if that big oil leak and "need for a tune-up" is a rod through the block

Ah man, that's right near me.

Don't like the salvage title, though. I wonder which auction he bought it at...

Some better pics:

Did someone peel the paint off the intake? Looks weird.
OR is one of the states that issues a salvage title for a stolen/recovered car (car is reported as a total loss by the insurance company.) $5K seems high to me (but I guess my car was a steal at $7200.)

I ran the CARFAX, other than the title it looks OK. Mileage looks accurate.

That's what the intake looks like when all the paint is gone.
He says the car ran. It musta been juuuuuust a little rough with two plug wires on the right bank unconnected and NO plug wires on the left bank!
That is one uuugly engine bay!

The engine compartment looks to me like there may have been a fire in there.

I believe that this car was bought from a portland insurance auction. The auction stated that the car did not run.
