Default Intensive Washer relay??

my '85 928s intensive washer system has not worked since I purchased the car.....It really hasn't hindered me ( as the other 2 pumps work fine) but last weekend I had the bug to fix it....I'm still at it...

The old pump was seized and the guts of the motor rusted. The easy fix was to get another pump ($$$ ???) any way the new pump is here and in place but when I push the little black button, no power makes it's way to the pump( I knew this before I ordered a new pump but figured the old pump being seized fried a fuse).

I've checked and verified all fuses are good. I also know this special pump is only to receive a timed blast of power instead of a continuous current...so what does the timing??? Is there a relay to control this or is it hidden away in the depths of the dash?

Any other places I should start with on my quest for fire?

Thanks

When I was getting mine in shape, it was the push button switch that had contact problems. Try shorting the contacts on the switch momentarily (you can reach up under the dash to do this) and make sure your switch is working.

On the 1980, there is a separate relay (XV) that does the timing. From the shop manuals, on the 85 it looks like relay IX - the auxiliary cleaning pump - may be your culprit.

Marc

Looks like you were right on the money.

With the new pump in place and the switch jumpered I was intensively washing for the first time!

Thanks.

Cool that is a small project I need to attend to. But it was so far down my repair list. Now that my list is pretty small I plan to fix it I'll start with the button first.
