Default Central locking help

Hi All,

Spent the day removing an aftermarket alarm/imobilisor and restoring the central locking wiring as per the wiring diagram. Everything tested ok with power and continuity. If I lock or unlock the passenger door the drivers door follows it correctly but locking or unlocking the drivers door doesn't move the passenger lock. PET shows two different part numbers for the left and right door motors, is this just a physical difference or is there a master/slave? Should either door being locked/unlocked change the other door?
There doesn't seem to be clear information on how it should operate anywhere I can find.

Thanks for any help,
Gary

Either will control the other, functionally there is no difference in this respect L to R.

Thanks Alan,
I suspect the driver's motor/controller isn't signalling when it's locked/unlocked to the other door, but it is responding to input. I'll pull it to see if it can be repaired before getting a replacement. Or maybe see if the trunk release motor is the same part and swap them.

Cheers,
Gary

Not much help, but my 84 was the same way when I bought it. Wife loved it working like this, since I'd unlock and open the door for her, oh what chivalry. Her three sisters would always give their husband's the "look"..."like why can't you be more like Brian"...whenever we were all together. Then, for some unknown reason, the drivers door started functioning both locks like the passengers side...so her high maintenance days were over...lol.

Removed the door panel on the drivers side to repair the window regulator and after reassembling everything...it stopped working again. Granted, my wife is quite happy about this situation, for sure.

Anyhow, haven't messed with it...since I was hoping it would repair itself again on its own. Eventually, l'm going to loosen the door panel locking **** plate and see if this was an bearing on the issue. What happens when you turn the interior locking ***** on either side? I kind of believe this had something to do with repairing mine the first time, was messing around inside, turning *****, pushing the dash locking button and such, loosening the locking **** panel cover, lubing the lock mechanism...and it was a few days after that...that the drivers door started controlling both locks.

Not really a definite answer, but...

Good luck,

Brian.

Hey Brian, it works the same whether I turn the **** from the inside or turn the key from the outside. It's a right hand drive car so maybe we could swap motors with each other and have two low maintenance wives :-)

Took the driver's door motor apart and found one of the switch wipers not making contact, also the power wire red/white was making intermittent contact. Now working as it should.
