I don't normally hang out on this ... I have a modest 'Half 928' .. but we share a love of leading from the front.
So I'm dipping my toes in the big boys pond because one of the fine fellows over on the 944 Turbo sent me a copy of the commemorative book from the Museum exhibition celebrating 40 years of the transaxle cars. It came with a very nice decal and I've had a few more made. Printed on high quality exterior vinyl with clear laminate. I'm told they should be good for 10 years UV exposure by which time there will be a 50 year version ... They are 90mm diameter.
Anyhow I have a few spare decals. Anyone want one they would be $10 including worldwide shipping + $5 for any additional ones in the same package. Makes a very quarter light decal.

How odd .... what did the 356 and 911 use if not a transaxle ??? seems to me "water cooled" would be a more accurate description. Or front engine but perhaps it is just a translation thing...
Also perpetuates the MYTH that 924s and 944s 968s have anything in common with 928s except water cooling !!!

About half of the engine is pretty much common between the latter two. Also, the foreward from Ferry in the '85 928 brochure refers to the two classes of Porsches, 911s and the transaxle cars, so that's how they've been referring to them for a while.
Thirdly, someone must have swiped the decals out of my exhibition book. Boo! But I did pick up the grill badge and am debating where, if anywhere, it would fit on a 928.

Ah right....same engine block , same heads , same valves, same crankshaft, same camshaft, same pistons, same connecting rods, same intake, same exhaust manifolds same water pump..... Yea right Truth is it LOOKS LIKE 1/2 of a 928 engine and that cute little balance shaft is borrowed (licensed) from Mitsubishi.....

Transaxle description efers to cars with the engine at the front and the transmission at the rear with engine rpm shaft in torque tube connecting the two. Quite challenging to maintain alignment of transmission and engine but provides a very nice weight distribution ... I think Renault may have pioneered it before Porsche.

You will be pleased to hear that none stole your decal. There was a small decal stuck on the cellophane wrapper of my book. I just replicated that decal at 90mm.
That enamel badge is awesome. I didn't realise they did one. May I ask how much that was. I'd really like to get my hands on one of those!

(better example is the Pontiac Tempest rear trans axle which used 1/2 of a V-8 until 1963 when it was optioned with a 326 cu in V-8 a central character for the movie My cousin Vinney.....as it was also a swing axle)

Yep RHD Japan - RHD is what we like here in NZ ... stragely Japs drive on the left but still may of the prestige cars are LHD in Japan ... weird status thing. Sadly that one just sold for $5k which was out of my budget. It needed to be super cheap for me to get the enthusiasm to take it on.
