Default Rebuilt Water Pumps

Been hashed to death but want you all to see the one I just pulled off a car that was over heating.

Great quality right? Don't want to spend the money on a good, known product? Here ya go.

This particular pump is made by "Autopac" and they are selling them on e-bay, through auto parts places online. Great stuff huh.

Fitted with the recommended Plastic Impeller and it came off the shaft?
Doesn't look like many miles until it failed, agreed you get what you pay for (most times

No bushing. Plastic isn't as strong as any kind of metal, and a plastic impeller needs to be molded around a bushing insert with knurling or similar to lock the plastic to the insert. The press-fit is then between the steel shaft and metal bushing.

Sean, was that a rebuilt? With a Porsche core? Or a new (cheap) pump?

Only guessing as I've not seen a "Porsche" rebuilt one. It's got a sticker from Autopac Rebuilt Water and Air Pumps. Looks like they sell all over the net, cheapest on e-bay from resellers.

It did used to be a Porsche pump from the stampings but who knows.

http://www.bmaparts.com/catalog-3/pa.../autopac-reman

They aren't that cheap!

Confusing they say they have no remanufactured parts, probably a Chinese knockoff.

The only rebuilt units I have bought and trust have been from 928Intl.

It would be interesting to know how they vetted this rebuilder....... somewhat disconcerting.

Was told on my FB page that this builder used to be quality but no longer is.

LOL, that's not something I worry about, you won't see me install a rebuilt anyway.
