Quote: Hi Andre,

I might have some pins left from old cylinders I had. If you want to get your main key to work on the hatch, we could try to repin it. Just drop by and we'll have a look.
Thank you Sylvain.

Quote: On my S3 only the red key opens the hatchback, but it opens nothing else. The black keys open everything else, but not the hatchback. It drives me batty.
Y es I have tried the red key in the ignition and it doesn't even turn !
The red key seems to be shorter !

fiatrn, you can do what andre is doing and re-key the hatch. I bought a used set off ebay and redid the doors, hatch and glove box on one of my '86.5's due to mismatched rear (also drove me nutty) and door locks that were set with sae screws (both stripped so locks were loose). I jsut received 2 upper latches from Roger and get to do this soon. These pieces look very nice.

Red key is the "short key." Black one is longer.

The Red key will not arm or disarm the alarm, it's not long enough to reach the little two pin cylinder in the back of the lock (the link I posted shows this very well).

It sounds like the hatch cylinder was replaced at some point, and it was never matched.

You can mix and match the pins that are currently in there, maybe leave a couple pairs empty. When I did mine, I received a PM with the suggestion that I leave one cylinder completely empty, so that any key, screwdriver or other object would be able to open it. And realistically, is a thief going to run around and try locks at random to see if they work that way?

Or get the tumbler pin kit and make it correct.

Thank you all for your ideas, this is great. this will be my winter project since it works with the red key without issues. If I could only correct my hatch opening while driving issue now !

i have pictures that i will post tonight in a different post to see what you guys think.
