Almost forgot, the TT internals, and front/rear clamps will need to be inspected and any pressure released. Constantine at Black Sea engineering has some great product as well.

I would compile a WYAIT list also. No sense racing to finish. The oil filler gasket will need changing, and I would take out the radiator, drop it off at the nearest radiator shop and have it professionally cleaned. I spent almost a year on my 87 after picking it up removing and replacing not only the obvious big ticket items but also the little unusual things that you see crop up on this forum from time to time.
ie: rear hatch plastic receiver insert, power steering reservoir, wheel well inner plastic inserts, alternator cooling hose, speedometer gear, l.e.d.s for the interior and dash lights, remove the smog pump if not required. Higher output alternator, gear reduction starter etc. The vacuum system, both under the center console and possibly the transmission ( if you have a Roger box) will need to be addressed also.
Porken has some good parts and Greg Brown's products are well worth looking at. They are pricey but the peace of mind is invaluable. Everything was done to make my 928 a "get in, turn the key" and go anywhere vehicle.
BTW, were your belly pans intact?
Impatience will bite you and like any fine lady, taking your time and doing it right will give you years of problem free enjoyment.
Good luck we will all be following your progress.

Well, I haven't had much time to work on my project, but I did get her properly situated on Porken Lift bars and 6 ton jack stands.
Elevated and resting.Removed the hood as the liner is disintegratino and I'm worried about debris as I get further into the intake. Look ma, no hood.
Took the fan shroud off and found this ... Old rad leak ...Looks like I'll be pulling the rad and getting a new one or repair?
Should I be more worred about the condition of the block and head gaskets since this has been sitting for so long (14 years) without coolant?
Off to the Miramar Air Show!

Making some progress. Most accessory belts removed. Timing belt cam covers off ... some pictures for amusement.
Anyone know what this wire is for? Seems strange to be just sitting on top of the air pump. I get the sense someone has been in here before ...

based on that picture you have the rotors are pointing in the wrong direction.
while facing the engine the rotors should point to the driver side fender if the engine is at TDC

I heard somewhere that the coolant can eat its way through the heads or cylinders or somesuch when the car is standing for a long time.
Is this true ?
Wouldn't a leakdown test be the order of the day, or pulling the heads ?
Just curious as I see stories about a few cars here that haven't been started in years and none of them seem to strip the engine heads off for a look at bores or heads ?
or am I completely wrong ?

The rotor are where they supposed to be. See the marks on the cam gears? The crank is one turn away from TDC.
