Talking Headers and Ott crossover question

I have an 82, with stock manifolds, test pipe and thrush glasspack. Sounds awesome, I have been told that the rear lights up with some lil flames popping out the pipe when decellerating. I'm not sure if that has to do with a air/fuel mixture problem, because i don't have an 02 sensor. I've heard its ok because it runs on an open-loop system, though correct me if i'm wrong. I have plans on to remove the smog pump, and buy headers from whatever company can get them to me the fastest, along with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and an Ott-crossover. I want to redo the whole exhaust system and everything will be welded from headers back. The car needs a lil' more low-mid range torque so I'm guessing the Ott crossover will help that. Also, I'm guessing replacing the cast iron manifolds with long tube headers would let the 928 breathe better at higher RPMS, being thats where all the power comes on. So if anyone can give me anyone can give me any pros and cons about adding/taking away(smogpump) these parts, that would be great. Not to mention some HP/TQ numbers? Oh, and what is the email address/website for the Ott Crossover?
Thank you for your responses, I need all the help I can get for being such a young shark driver.
Cory Johnt,

p.s. This is off the subject, but for anyone who is in SCCA and lives near Pensacola,FL. I attended an autocross a few sundays ago for my first time driving experience and all i can say that it was GREAT! 97 people registered for the turnout and I was in ''BS'' class and along with two 350Z's and two 944 turbos. Safe to say I think was the youngest driver being only 16 years old and I wouldn't say it was fair by any means lol, but then again I thought I did ok for my first time. I was 2 seconds slower than the 4th place 350z and 10.7 seconds from the 1st place 944 Turbo. To make me feel real slow lol, the fastest was a "D sports racer'' with a time of 55 secs...I'm hoping to do better and buy some different tires, Bronson eats them away. So maybe after I get all these Exhaut upgrades fitted on my shark, I can attend a PCA drivers ed and become a little more competitive at both PCA and SCCA events.

Hey Cory,

Not a whole lot of info here, but here is Louis Otts email: LouisOtt@cs.com

Sounds like you had fun at the autocross and that is all that matters. I have yet to attend one yet, but it doesn't sound like you did to bad for your first time.

I know there's a big diff between an 82 and a 89, but I've got some #s for You. We ran a gt on the dyno with no cats and RMB. We cut the airpump belt between runs and found an 8 HP gain. Since the same belt runs the cooling fan on your car it would also be nice to put an additional fan behind the rad. and get rid of the HP robbing fan!
