The 89 GT also has rolled fenders and 17mm spacers in the rear and had club sport forged wheels. The rolled fenders, spacers and forged wheels were dropped from later GTs. The CS wheels were replaced with similar looking but cast D90 wheels.

I believe the rolled fenders continued with the 90-91GT, at least my 90 is rolled front and rear. Factory, not some Kibort baseball bat job. Agreed on your other points.

Nope. All GTs have factory-rolled fenders.

All '90-95 had them and also spare parts provided from factory for earlier S4's since they were introduced.

Jarrod, Does your '90 have the rear fender liners like the '91's? Rod

No, the fender liners started in '91. That said, most of them are literally falling apart by now - major crumbling and you can poke a hole through them with your finger. Jerry Feather is making hard shell replacements and I believe Roger Tyson can still get OEM replacements, the latter are reportedly of a revised, more durable material than the originals.

Default 928 GT

thanks Jarrod. My '91 S4 had the self destructing fender liners. They did however decrease the road noise markedly compared to my '88 5 speed.

Anyone tried copying the liners using fiberglass, using old ones as a mold?

I got the last new ones from Roger. They fit perfectly and are made of a better material so should last a long time.

The left-side liner has to come out every two years for PSD service. All liners need to be removable to get to the marker lights. A very flexible expoxy would be needed.

The primary purpose of the '91+ liners is noise reduction. I wonder if fiberglass liners would amplify noise rather than reduce it?

I've got a set of new factory liners for my '91 waiting to go in sometime in the next few weeks. $1250 for the set. OUCH! They are definitely a different material than the POS pieces that remained of the originals.

At this point, or when I can get overy my extensive lower back surgery, I can provide full rear wheel well liners for all the GTS cars and others for any of the narrower body 91s. Then, when I can devise a method of attaching the upper rear of the right liner, since the pre-91 cars did not have the GTS hat-section mounting points in the top of the well, I'll be able to provide Liners for 87 to 90. Then, when I devise another method to fasten the lower rear of both liners, the same liners will be suitable for everything from 78 thru 86.

My Liners are $900 per set plus S&H to domestic addresses. Shipping overseas is really expensive, something like $600 or more, as I recall.

My Liners are made of ABS plastic and are designed to fit, contrary to what you find with those from the factory. Do a search and look at the pictures of the ones from the factory that some have already installed.

I haven't done any kind of testing, but the reports from the field from those who have installed my liners, indicate that the sound deadening ability of mine is at least as good as those from the factory.

Interesting discussion.

With regard to sound-deadning then, are the liners the MAIN and/or ONLY difference between the 89 and 90 vs. the 91 models?

I was actually under the impressions that there was additional sound deadening material under the carpet as well.
