Default 83 928S Running Hot?

This one has me a little baffled as to where to start looking. My 83 928S appears to be running hot, yet never overheating. The temp in the past has always been in the middle of the guage. Recently it's progressively started moving toward the high mark and stays. Increases in traffic/idle. Up hill it moves up.. down hill it moves down. Reaches the high mark in about 6 minutes after startup. I've also had it return to normal after I've stopped briefly... and back through the routine again. Now the really odd part. I noticed tonight when I turned off the headlights... the gauge dropped approx. 1/8". turn the lights on... back up...

Any suggestions as to where to start?

Thanks,

Chuck

Sounds like you've got TWO variables affecting your gauge, engine temperature and voltage. The first thing I'd do is clean your grounds/contacts and se whether you can get rid of the voltage variable. It also sounds like you might have an air flow problem ie. cooling fans etc.

Chuck - My temp gauge does the same thing when I turn on my lights. I think I'll have to look into Ernest's suggestion of cleaning grounds and pod contacts. As for engine temp increasing during traffis/idle periods you may want to look into debris sandwiched between radiator and AC condensor, age of coolant, flushing radiator and block, and viscous radiator fan clutch. Check out Nichols Cooling Tips for more ideas/answers. Good luck!
