Default Head resurfaced - before and after

From the 87 engine that had a cracked cylinder and sat for years.

Before

After:

My local shop milled .006 off each head.

According to the web the mm conversion of
5.901 inches = 149.886mm
5.899 inches = 149.835mm

I will be using JB weld for the last of the surface corrosion. As an aside, according to my machinist way back in the misty dim Jaguar issued a tech bulletin for their heads filled with corrosion due to failed head gaskets that included once the surfaces were cleaned, apply JB weld, wait for it to start to set up, use a razor to level the JB weld and immediately install with new head gasket.

No sh*t? Hell I should have had my originals surfaced first before assuming they required welding. Yours looked as bad if not worse than mine. Looks great Kevin.

I had a car (not a shark) with corroded aluminum head mating surfaces Kevin and they did the JBWeld procedure just as you described. First I had heard of this but it worked fine

As long as you are not using it on the fire ring you should be ok. IMO.

Looks to me you still got pitting in the fire ring area. That's not goood. Didn't the shop say they will only going to take 0.002" off and not more or is my memory off? Sandblasting does wonders to the appearance of a part. You should remove the oil galley caps and clean out the passages.

Fire ring area is fine.

These are the 87 heads - you are thinking about the 91 heads. They are now ready for pickup. They welded them and milled them .003 Those heads are @ 5.833 or 149.563. I'll post the after pictures tomorrow.

And for the record these heads were not media blasted. My machinist dipped, stripped and then painted some areas with aluminum colored paint. Paint can confuse some people into thinking they were bead blasted.

Kevin, I'm interested to know how good a job they do, and what kind of cost it is to weld/surface those heads. I still may have my original heads done.

If you can, post close up pictures of at least the right head in the top picture (top two combustion chambers). Better yet, post pictures figures of all the combustion chambers.

The finished heads in the first post are the same heads just from a different angle as in post #11?
